Take a bite out of the audio taco!

you have to check out one of my favorite blogs right now. my friend Tina is SO passionate about music...and gives show and cd reviews on a regular basis. its frickin rad!

and riddle me this: she says she's "straight," right, but she adores Tegan & Sara, and ME. tegan and sara count as two gay points cause there are two of them, and i count as two points cause im SO frickin' gay. go look at her other musical taste and see if you can get her to change her mind about that pesky orientation;-)

if you like:

Tegan & Sara
Missy Higgins
PJ Harvey
Kate Nash
Metric
Aimee Mann
Bat For Lashes...........

...and learning about awesome new music, go take a bite out of Tina's...ahem....taco.

"I've got a girlfriend and she makes me happier than I ever imagined I could be. I'm simply looking for friends who understand me and who've got good taste in music, and who are around my age-- 18-22 or so would be best, people who are living the college life, or anyone who lives in Upstate New York.

I'm a music major at a dinky community college, but after next year I plan on transferring to either SUNY Potsdam or the music conservatory at SUNY Purchase. If I can get in this year to one or both, I'll probably go, especially if I get into SUNY Potsdam. I listen to vast amounts of music at all times and am pretty much the living definition of a music geek, but I have fun being that way so it's all good. I'm a very laid-back person, but I've had lots of crap happen in my life, so I don't trust many people or many things about life itself that most people take for granted. It's not that I'm paranoid-- just reasonably suspicious based off of my life so far."

I cant be the ONLY one! :) Everything I am can be summed up into one word..."Dancer" :) I teach a million classes a week, spend LOTS of time in NYC, and a bit in Philly. Even though I live around the corner from Philly, NYC will always be my second home!

I love ALL kinds of music, and I am ALWAYS on the lookout for new stuff! I am extremely outgoing, love to have fun, talk, tell jokes...although sometimes I am the only one who laughs...

I have the best girlfriend in the world, and we just bought a house, so I am not looking for anything like that, just friends! :-)"

Terra Does Smashing Pumpkins

Terra just posted this video on youtube. She's been on tour with the Fray in the UK for the past few days and wanted to do really natural recordings each night after the show for people who couldn't make it. This vid and this cover is now a new favorite of mine...wow:

Totally reminds me of being on the road with her going across the country each day/night...and her singing along to the radio, kinda blowin' my mind a bit. The transportation is a bit bigger, the accomodations are fancier and the crowds...HUGE, but that's still Terra. Love that girl. *sigh*

Oh and for those of you just joining us, Terra Naomi is one of my best friends, she's American but lives in London currently, and she's straight. Um, I think that covers the top 3 questions I get concerning her:-)

Your Daily Lesbian! - Alis, 19

Name: Alis
Age: 19
Location: Cannon Falls, Minnesota
Status: Single
Looking for: Friends, Relationship
MySpace: www.myspace.com/ivehadbetterx

"Aybaybay, I'm Alis...like Elise but spelt differently. I'm an out 19 year old who is currently residing in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. I just recently moved back here from California. Why, do you ask? I moved to California to be with....you guessed it, a girl. We just recently broke up, so I decided to move back. Which was pretty stupid on my behalf considering there are fewer lesbians out this way, but that's where ya'll come in.

Allow me to elaborate. I'm looking for some new friends...maybe some people in the area to go to some gay spots with, or even some new friends to discuss gay things with. I'm as gay as they come but I never go out with gay people and do gay things! I feel deprived as a lesbian. Straight friends can only do so much! I know some of you small towners feel me on that.

I enjoy anything sports related (go figure), music, movies, clubs, parties, you name it. I like it. Most often you'll find me at a club/party with friends, visiting haunted places just to try and freak ourselves out, or simply sitting at home watching GSN because I'm a game show junkee. I love music, it's my medicine...from Avril Lavigne, Paramore, Taylor Swift to Timbaland and The Used. I'm definitely nocturnal. I love the night and the night life. If you're witty, spontaneous, laid back and ambitious, hit me up at my myspace link www.myspace.com/ivehadbetterx . Thanks :)"

That's What She Said.

A large percentage of the messages/questions I get from you lovely ladies has to do with sex. From the virgin who wants to know what "that little button" is, to the pro (ho?) who wants to know how she can get things goin' again in the bedroom with her girlfriend of 10 years.

Well my friends, I'm glad you asked. Mostly because it gives me a great excuse to use the word "sexpert." I frickin' LOVE that word! I try to use it on a daily basis, but I'm mostly met with judgmental stares. I know for a lot of you, the information I'm going to provide will be elementary, my dear Watson. But keep in mind that there will be lots of people who will get some knowledge from this...and then hopefully will just GET SOME. Ya heard?

Since I'm no sexpert (hee), I'm going to direct you to another site that can give you the technical answers. I can only offer you stick figure drawings or a sock puppet show, which I will do upon request.

YOUR FIRST TIME:
ARLAN SAYS: ...Should be with someone other than your Kelly Clarkson poster and a glove.

SEXPERT SAYS: "There’s a lot wrapped up in your first time lesbian sexual experience. Whether it’s your first time having sex at all, or your first time having sex with another woman, being nervous is normal. There’s so much cultural hype about “your first time” and “losing your virginity.” One thing is true, you never do forget your first time. Here’s some tips to get you through your first time lesbian sexual experience.

1. Get to know your own body. Before you can even think about turning someone else on, it’s good to know what excites you. Yes, I’m talking about masturbation. Spend some time one-on-one with yourself. As you touch yourself and..."

HOW TO STRAP ON THE OLD STRAP-ON:
ARLAN SAYS: Anyone who's ever gone indoor rock climbing and been around a strap-on harness knows why I giggle each time.

SEXPERT SAYS: "Harnesses come in two basic flavors..."(click here to read the rest!)

FISTING:
ARLAN SAYS: It's not just for me and your mom anymore. (sorry! I had to!)

(click here to read what the sexpert has to say about fisting!)

ORAL SEX:
ARLAN SAYS: Yes please.

SEXPERT SAYS: "Spend some time and get your lover excited before making the plunge. Tease her whole body before you head south. When having oral sex with your lover, it's not all about..."(click here to read the rest!)

TRIBADISM:
ARLAN SAYS: The word always makes me think of some sort of ritual around an old Indian burial ground. Thank *clit* it's about something completely different!

(click here to read what the sexpert says about tribadism!)

THE CURE FOR LESBIAN BED DEATH:

ARLAN SAYS: Well I would say being married to Katharine Mcphee fixes all chances of that happening. But if you're not as lucky as I am, might I suggest threesomes, leftover Halloween costumes and porn? No? Hmmm...ok well see what the sexpert had to say:

SEXPERT SAYS: "I don’t think lesbians are the only ones who suffer from “bed death.” But lesbians sure do have a reputation for losing the libido after a few years together. Does your relationship have to end up in bed death? No! Not if you don’t want it to. But like most things, sustaining a healthy sexual relationship takes work. Here are some tips for keeping sex in your lesbian relationship...

I look forward to the comments in this post. Bring em on!

Tegan & Sara fans near Omaha...

One of my readers wanted me to pass this message on. If you can help her, contact her directly on her myspace page listed below, or leave a comment here if you don't have myspace. Thanks!

"I live in Omaha, Nebraska and don’t have a car or license, and I noticed that Tegan and Sara are going to be in Lawrence, Kansas (November 5) and have just recently fallen in love with their music. "I'm looking for someone who is a little older a little more experienced in relationships. I'm tired of the dating a new girl every night thing... I'm super affectionate and I have a big heart I want a girl that I can spoil with attention, breakfast in bed, massages, that type of thing. Someone who is into getting high on life not drugs!!!

I also need a girl that is good with kids! I have two highly entertaining little boys... My friends often tell me I'm too nice and they call me a cuddle bug. I'm easy to please, I love going to the beach, park, movies, bowling, going for walks to get an ice cream... anything really, I enjoy the simple things in life! :0) "

What The F*ck Was I Thinking??

Well, I was thinking this was a fuckin' rad song when I heard it for the first time 3 years ago, and it's a fuckin' rad song now that it's all polished and cleaned up for the youngins.

I give you my friend Jenny Owen Youngs' brand spankin' new video for her breakthrough song, "Fuck Was I":

The vid quality is a little iffy, but I'm sure there will be newer versions posted on youtube soon that are a bit more clear. But uh, how GENIUS is the this video?? The way they bump into Jenny to replace the word, "fuck" makes my heart happy.

She's a cool kid and I'm excited to see what's in store for her. No matter how big she gets, she'll always be my *always-slightly-intoxicated... always-completely-intoxicaTING* buddy, Jenny from the block.

I'm pounding my chest and throwing a dove in the air for you, Jenny.

No Lesbians Were Peed On During the Making of This Post.

Before he lost his mind, R-ruh Kelly did make some sexy jams. This youtube user made *sexy* with this vid using hot clips from the L Word:

Don't ask me why Lacey Chabert was at the very beginning. And please don't judge me for promoting R-ruh Kelly in this blog. You KNOW you were in your 9th grade Home Ec class mixin' dough and deciding which one in your group was going to "make" kool-aid, and jammin' to "You Remind Me." And you KNOW you *believed you could fly* after he said he could. And you KNOW you wanted to take up boxing after seeing "the World's Greatest" vid.

But then...all the peeing started, and all the "midgets" in closets...and all hell broke loose. Why, R-ruh Kelly?? Why???

Perhaps Riley can shed some light on things:

"I'm a college student, studying philosophy. My goal is to go to grad school and become a philosophy professor. I play lots of musical instruments and sing as well. I also read copious amounts of literature, and download more music than I will ever need on iTunes. I'm quiet at first, but I definitely open up fast. I'm a very open, loving, friendly person. I'm also not at all into drugs or anything. I can handle smoking and *light and occasional* drinking, but nothing crazy. Definitely reserved.

I am looking for a girl that is reserved in that sense as well. Someone who loves conversation about anything substantial, ie politics, religion, philosophy, etc. I'm searching for the girl that's meant to be, not a casual fling that results in casual sex. I'm definitely a committed person, and I want a girl who is committing as well. "

My laptop is on it's last leg, y'all...

...And I need YOUR help!

Let me start this plea by letting you know that today my laptop has overheated and turned itself off about 4 or 5 times already. I need a new computer! And when I say "need," I mean it! I use the computer for 90% of what I do for a living. And as my friend Sarah says, Kinkos and the public library can't cut it when you have to be online as much as I do. I know...cause I've tried!

Two years ago Sarah sent me her broken laptop as a Christmas present. She knew that I needed a laptop, and she hoped that my then-girlfriend Camille would be able to fix it so I could use it. Well, she was right! Camille's a bit of a genius when it comes to computers (and cars, and astronomy, and...and...) so she was able to get it working. I've used it this whole time. And though it has wires hanging out of it and tape everywhere holding things together, and though it overheats, I've been able to use it for everything I needed.

But now I'm sad to say that it looks like this old Averatec laptop is on its last leg. It shuts off if I try to watch a youtube video. It shuts off if a myspace profile is playing a song for too long. It shuts off at LEAST 10 times per day and I'm afraid soon it's not going to turn back on. Oh and before you ask, yes I've tried every cooling pad, laptop fan and trick known to man. Doesn't help. The cd-rom also doesn't work anymore, the ports are broken and it can be turned off by being touched the wrong way. Sounds kinda familiar;-)

SOOOO this is where you can help! As you know (cause I've made it abundantly clear for the past week;-) ) it's my birthday next Tuesday, October 30th. I can't afford to get a new laptop on my own, and I would loooove to be able to get the US$650 +tax one I found at the Officemax up the street from me as my gift. If only a few of the 2,000 or so of you who visit my site each and every day donated just $5 to my laptop fundraiser, I could get it!

This would ensure that I'd be able to continue to provide you with daily lesbian moments (plus do the other work I do on the computer, including transcription). And I've chosen a laptop thats on sale, and will allow me to get online. It's not fancy...but it will do the job!

I will keep an UP TO THE CLOSEST HOUR tally of how much has been raised so you can see exactly what's needed and how you're helping. If you've been entertained by any of my blog posts, if I've ever helped you through a work day or made you smile at something silly...made your special parts a little more happy by showing a hot vid clip...or helped you meet a friend online, please consider droppin 5 bucks into my virtual donation box. If you are not able to because of financial reasons, I totally understand and please don't feel bad!! This is only for those of you who are willing and able.

Oh and if you'd rather buy a tshirt instead, that will help too as I make a few bucks every time one is sold.

THANK YOU!

-arlan

"I am currently a student at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL. I am an English major with Professional Writing and Creative Writing minors. Sooo... basically all I do is read and write. Music has really changed my life, and some of my favorite musicians are (but DEFINITELY not limited to): mewithoutYou (if you love them, I will love you), Ani DiFranco, The Beatles, The Counting Crows, and Bright Eyes. I am a sucker for any girl with a good voice and a guitar.

I'm all about contemplating things which I cannot grasp - The Creation, Life, Death, Hope, Homosexuality, Epiphanies, Growth, Etc. I can ramble on all day with my theories, and I love hearing other theories. I'm definitely Pro-Peace and Pro-Enlightenment. After I graduate college, I plan on spending two years in the Peace Corp. I'd love to work somewhere in South Africa.

I like going to concerts, spending time outside, writing, working out, traveling, playing the djembe, going out, and cooking (although I'm not the best). I will cook you up a mean Boca Burger though! I am a total dork and will try to impress you with a lot of stupid jokes. I am also very accident-prone. If I were to sum myself up in one sentence I would say this: I am a left-handed, flat-footed, vegetarian, liberal, lesbian. I love meeting all types of new people, so feel free to add me to myspace or facebook if you think we'd hit it off. I'm just looking for friends right now, but if I happen to meet a potential girlfriend, that's cool too. = ]"

Top 5 Awesome Things About Bionic Woman, Episode 5

5. Cock block by Isaiah Washington. A few days ago, I complained about Washington sinking my boner for the show by his insistence on showing up for work. But last night he finally had one short scene that was worth something. Just as Jaime was getting gently kissed mauled by that one dude, and I was shielding my eyes and saying out loud to myself, "Lucky bastard," Washington shows up out of effin' nowhere to cock block the shit out of ol' dude. It doesn't exactly make up for years of being an asshole, or minutes of stinkin' up the screen on Grey's, but I gotta give credit where credit's due. Hopefully next time, the questioning lesbian chick with the short hair will be sent in instead. You hear me, NBC?

4. Michelle Ryan's British...and um...wait, what was I saying? Yeah, so in this episode, she was able to flaunt her sexiness even more by unleashing that accent on the show. She was "pretending" to be an English exchange student for an assignment. What the writers are lacking in plot lines and logic in this show, they're making up for in bogus reasons to flash the stash. Hey, whatever excuse you guys have to use in the future, I don't care what you're sellin, I'm buyin!

3. Pretend-English-exchange-student Jaime digs Rilo Kiley. My ears perked up when, during a dorm room scene, I hear the illustrious vocals of a Ms. Jenny Lewis. Just a few minutes later, Ani Difranco's all up in ma 'er? Cheers to the music supervisor. Let's do lunch! Oh and uh, by the bi, chick playin' Jaime's roommate = luckiest bitch on earth right now.

2.

I do believe this is the first episode where they didn't get the Bionic Woman wet. But I can't say she returned the favor. Ahem. *Austin Powers head tilt* *raised eyebrow*

1. No seriously, the English accent is effin' hot. I don't know how I can make this any clearer: I *heart* English accents. She has one. We heard LOTS of it in this episode. Katharine Mcphee and I are sawin' wood* as we speak to add an extension on our bed for Michelle Ryan. This is serious business.

*As of right now, "sawin' wood" is officially code for *Mcphee and I doin' it*. Hee...I said, "wood."

My Los Angeles Birthday Plans!

If you are in or near l.a. and want to come check out some awesome live music, have some righteous nachos and join me for my casual birthday celebration, I'd love to see you:-)

(Killola: milk does a body good.)

The shindig/show is at Safari Sam's in Hollywood this Sunday, Oct. 28th. my buddies in the band Killola, (whose lead singer Lisa is the star of the lezzy web series Girltrash) are playing.

I chose this location because its one of the few places in l.a. that doesn't have attitude...and they'll actually let me in to my own party no matter what I'm wearing:-)

I'll be there starting at 8pm and will stick around for a few hours...there's a full dinner menu...its a casual place like a rocker bar thingy. Its ALL-AGES. Give the bar a call if you need more info.

If you're planning on going, please send me a message so I can look for you:-)

Girl Parts

Today's post features an Aussie, and it and other recent conversations I've had made me realize that I probably haven't told you a very interesting thing about my life as a lesbian. It's story time, ladies.

When I was 16, I fell in love with a German chick and we were together for almost 3 years. After we broke up, I fell in love with an Australian chick...and we were together for almost 3 years. After we broke up, that German (who lives in Germany) and that Australian (who lived in Australia)...fell in love...and have been together for 4 years living happily ever after:-)

And yes, I can smile about it, because even though its some of the CRAZIEST lesbian drama I've ever heard of, those two chicks are still very dear friends of mine. I love them to death, and they make a beautiful couple. They're probably going to get a kick out of being mentioned here...if you guys read this, leave a comment;-)

So uh, can anyone beat my story? Have any of you had two longterm relationships with two women who lived on other CONTINENTS...who didn't know each other before you introduced them...and who now are practically married?

*Pause.* Ok...now on to the post!

You know what I like? Wait, I'll give you a moment to respond out loud. Don't worry, your co-workers, classmates and roommates already think you're weird, so saying the words "chicks...doin it?" out loud to your computer screen will not make it any worse.

And sayin' those words would mean you have gotten the answer completely right, my friend. For I do love when chicks...do it. I also love getting to watch that, either on screen or in person. (*hint hint, couples out there*) Elle Macpherson never looked so gay good. She's 17 years older than me, but I'd still certainly hit that:

The title of this post made me long to hear "Doll Parts" by Hole all of a sudden. So I will share that with you now. Damn, 1994 was a good year for music.

"I am currently in school studying massage therapy and Chinese Medicine. Sometimes it's the only thing I can talk about because I am really passionate about my current professional goal.

I am a physically affectionate person. When I like someone it's the best feeling ever. I will try my best to win you over, but you have to do the same if you like me back. I want to know that the woman who has my heart is going to treat it right. I speak from my heart and everything I say comes from a place of love and comes with passion.

I have a personality that's like fire.

I enjoy reading fantasy, science fiction, and graphic novels (it's the perfect marriage between the visual arts and the written word). I really enjoy stories about friendship and Love. I like going to the movies, the theater, museums, concerts, dancing till 4am, and watching documentaries. I am also a gamer from back in my Nintendo and D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) days as a kid. I have a PS2 now with a 2nd controller, Hint Hint.

I also like going to the gym at strange hours. I like to do a lot of things at random times. If I want to tell you something at 4am in the morning I will text, call, e-mail or whatever at that time.

My style is sneakers, jeans, a t-shirt and a hat. I love to wear scarf's and hoodies. It's the only reason why I like Fall.

I am looking for someone exciting and open-minded. Intelligence, inner beauty, and a great sense of humor are the most important traits. I would like to be with a woman who fits age wise between 25 to 30. However if I meet a female who is everything I would like between 20 to 24 I would date her.

"An Open Letter to Bi-curious Drunk Chicks"

Haha...thank you to Katie B. for forwarding this gem to me...

"Dear Bi-curious Drunk Girls,

I have something I need to get off my chest. While it's been fun, the kissing and making out and such, something's got to give. You see, I know the minute you start talking about how you "like girls, too", or "think about women a lot" that you're eventually going to ask me to kiss you. I don't mind this at all. In fact, I generally enjoy it. Where I start having a problem is when I try to decide just how drunk you are.

I mean, I've been there, drunk that is. And I've been taken advantage of a time or two in that inebriated state. And while I'll be the first to admit..."

When Life Hands You Lemons...

...Watch old Katharine Mcphee interviews.

Yes folks, today's post is a selfish one. I'm dedicating it to things that are helping me feel better about having my myspace page deleted all of a sudden, with no explanation. *sigh*

UPDATE: My myspace profile has been restored! Such a strange, strange day/week. But I'm super grateful...You can add me by clicking on the tab at the top of the site

Those things are:

1. Mcphee, eatin' fruit (it aint the only fruit she's been eatin) and doin' freestyle Amy Winehouse. Nothin' better than that on a dreary day:

2. You guys:-)

Yep, listening to just a few of the calls some of you have made (in the upper right-hand corner of my site) to my snapvine BOX...really heals the soul:-)

3. ...so does Liz Hurley in a maid's outfit...talking all British, and shit:

"Hi my name is Keshia. I'm 20 years old and currently reside in Corvallis, Oregon while attending school. I am from the Portland area, Tualatin to be exact for any of you who might know the area. I am a zoology major in my junior year at Oregon State University. I love animals and being outdoors. I also love music, mostly alternative and rock, watching movies and reading. I'm a bit of a geek and you'll often catch me playing video games with my roommate, or sharing science jokes with my sorority sisters (I'm in Sigma Delta Omega a sorority for women in science, not your typical sorority). I work part-time at a dining center on campus.

I'm looking for friends and more...someone who is fun-loving and sweet, hopeless romantics are always a plus. Tattoo's and piercings are also a plus--but not necessary--as I have a few myself. Someone outgoing would be nice as I can sometimes be a little shy, and can often be very random. If you like what you hear or are interested at all you can find me on myspace or on facebook. Thanks!"

________________________________________
As of approx. 7pm PST tonight, my main myspace page has been deleted by myspace.

Yep...more than 40,000 friends over a couple of years...approx 325,000 profile views, 1200+ blog subscribers, all my blogs, all your posts and comments, my groups...gone.

I'm talking to a couple of people right now to see if there's anything I can do to get it back...but I have no idea how that works, so it might be gone forever.

UPDATE: Add my new profile @

Thanks to everyone for their support...um...yeah...

"Well hey, I'm Daisy. The least fitting name in the world. But it's mine. I'm a musician and it's my world. But, there's a serious lack of girl in the world of musician. I'm painfully single and I'm a hopeless romantic. If you're anything like me, you'll know that's a bad combination. Hopeless is the operative word. I'm looking for gay friends (from all over the world!) because... well it's lonely here for a single lesbian. Maybe a date. But definitely friends. I live in a city that has ONE gay club (full of men...). Nuff said, right? I'm tired of going home knowing that girl's not going to call me, y'know?

Sooo *settles down with a steamy mug of cocoa* I wear my heart on my sleeve and I'm my own person. I love the way that I feel when I'm wearing a tie. It's me. I'd like someone who smiles at me when I wear it. I love to laugh, obviously, and I have a wicked sense of humour (sillyness is the way forward, ladies). Being a middle-child, I thrive on attention, but I'm looking for attention from one particularly amazing girl. One I can write trashy songs about and sing to on the beach with my guitar :) or maybe paint you a picture.

...or just play cards and giggle in bed with...
(I bet you're wondering why I'm still single :P)

I'll talk to anyone about anything and at any time of the day. I love getting up at 5am because it smells so unlike any other time of the day. Especially in winter. I like driving at night with no lights on and my head out the window. Simple things. I'm also the person who makes annoying comments at the TV during a program you wanted to see. Just to make YOU giggle. You resist, but I see your smile."

There's nothin I like better than a hot ass...mess!

I'm just gonna get right into this: This vlog show has some serious potential! :-)

One of my readers named Britt contacted me a few days ago to let me know about a blog AND vlog she and her best guy friend Kev are working on called the "Hot Ass Mess Show." I believe these guys are both 20 years old...you'll know why I point that out in a sec.

Check out the pilot:

If I may be so bold as to offer just a bit of advice, I'd say perhaps if Britt and Kev cut down on the cursing just a weeee bit, you could appeal to a broader audience. I mean, don't get me wrong...I enjoy cursing as much as the next gay. But since what you have to say is funny and dead-on on its own...you don't really need the extra cursing, and it sometimes distracts from your message. You've both got GREAT accents and voices...the show moves along at a wonderful pace. The topics are timely and your opinions are funny and on point. It's nice to have a gay and lesbian point of view on these subjects in vid form. It's a nice spin on DIY. I look forward to seeing more...maybe something on a weekly basis to start out. I could even see Youtube featuring it if...if you took out 90% of the cursing;-) But until then, maybe 30% taken out will do!

You can go to Britt and Kev's awesome blog at http://ohnohotmess.blogspot.com to see the second episode and read lots more from the duo.

Reader needs YOUR help!

A message I received from a reader:

"Hey Arlan,

I was wondering if i could ask a favor of you. My mom is participating in this program for Muscular Dystrophy here in Indianapolis, IN. They have a really great program put together. So I was wondering if maybe you could help me spread the word...since you are the biggest thing on myspace nowadays! Even $5 would help...its for a great cause. I understand if you have a lot on your plate, and we still love your work! Keep it up and have a great weekend !

My gift to you...

Some of you already know the artist I'm going to share with the class today. But believe it or not, there are LOTS of people who don't! So sit back and prepare to have your lives slightly altered changed, FOREVER. :-)

Patty Griffin is my favorite songwriter. Introducing me to her music was one of the greatest things my friend Terra has ever done for me (and she's done some pretty incredibly things for me!) I finally got to see Patty in concert earlier this year, and it was the ONLY time I've ever cried during a show, no matter how moved I've been. It caught me completely by surprise. But her music really has helped me through some of the toughest times in my life so it makes sense that it had that great of an effect on me.

I don't want to depress you right out of the gate, but this is the only vid clip I could find where you can hear my favorite Patty song in its entirety. Believe it or not, this song was written years before Hurricane Katrina hit.

"Forgiveness"

(video by this youtube user)

Here's a live version of a song that has healed my soul a few times...

"Be Careful"

And one of the few official music videos she has:

"Rain"

If you liked these, other songs I recommend downloading are:

-"Top of the World" (has also been covered by the Dixie Chicks)
-"Useless Desires"
-"Long Ride Home"
-"Nobody's Cryin"
-"Let Him Fly" (has also been covered by Jessica Simpson)
-"Moses" (has also been covered by Terra Naomi)
-"Stolen Car"
-"Making Pies"
-"Not Alone"
-"When It Don't Come Easy"
-"Peter Pan"

Patty's official website is @ http://www.pattygriffin.com.

I am in a happy and healthy relationship, we have been together for over two years now. I would love to meet some great people from ALL over the world from all different backgrounds with all different stories to tell. There isn't much to do in my small town, so myspace and the internet has become very addictive, so I would love to chat to some new friends. I live for softball and watching other sports, I might not understand all the rules but it doesn't stop me from watching it. I am totally in love with music, couldn't live without it! Missy Higgins and Amy Lee are two of my fav artists!!"

Missy Higgins

People of Australia...prepare to fall out of your seats: I saw Missy do an in-store in Los Angeles Friday night where about 100 people were in attendance. It was at a bookstore that sells cds called Borders, and she just walked right on in past everyone like she was your local librarian. Everyone else, to put into perspective why the Aussies might have a little bit of a fit when they hear that, imagine you heard that Sarah Mclachlan or Sheryl Crow played for 100 people at a bookstore in Sydney. Wouldn't happen, right? Right.

I'm no Perez Hilton and I'm not in the business of outing celebs just for the sake of outing them. But I certainly hope the rumors are true and this chick's at least bi cause I have a mad crush on her. Whether or not she likes to snog ladies or gents, or both, or neither, is really irrelevant. The music is what's most important here. She has an amazing soulful sound, some pretty inspired lyrics and is the one of the friendliest in-store-rs I've ever seen.

All that said tho, I still have my theories, mostly based on songs like this one, whose lyrics include:

"and this rumor down said if you dont mind?
im going to leave you here till night time
and we can do what we want out of spotlight
im your secret.... aren't i babe
yeah im your secret aren't i babe"

"Secret"

(from her Hotel Cafe show in L.A. Oct 17th)

I know this might sound crazy, but at the in-store, her style/delivery reminded me of a mixture between Johnathan Rice and Something Corporate's Andrew McMahon on a few of her songs! Like in this one:

"The Special Two"

Um...even more telling lyrics in that one too...tres interesting. Missy, if you're single, I'd love to take you out on a date and show you the wonderful world of lesbianism. No seriously, I can turn any movie date and any trip to Red Lobster into a seriously gay(er) affair. Let's get some chedda biscuits together and talk about it. Despite what this post and the rest of my blog might indicate, I can be discreet;-)

I am obsessive, but in a good way that doesn't hurt anyone, and I am an extremely generous tipper. I live in Los Angeles and work A LOT, so I would like to meet someone who can help me find that wonderful work/life balance that will keep me from going into work at weird hours, like 10 o'clock at night, just because I can and I don't have anything better to do. Just a random thought...

That Isaiah Washington is really sinkin' my boner for Bionic Woman. Everytime that chick gets stays all hot and sweaty and is kicking ass, I gotta have Isaiah's homophobic ass show up on my screen. And what makes it worse?? He has speaking lines! I don't need to hear that condescending tone. Damn it.

So they better have that Bionic Woman and that blonde crazy chick either DO IT hard really frickin' soon, or at least make out in the rain in a dream sequence, or like, get that Jennifer Garner to guest star and make out with both of them after some ass kicking, or I'm packing up my balls and my squirt gun and I'm going home!

Nah.

Thank you, I now return you to our regularly scheduled program.

Haunted Lesbian Sorority

I think the title of this post sums it up quite nicely. What else do you need, really? Look, if--heaven forbid--I were ever to leave this earth (and not in a UFO this time), I would totally come back and haunt a lesbian sorority. For serious. I just hope I have as much fun as these guys...

Episode 1:

If none of that clip made you laugh, you and I need to reevaluate our friendship. Or perhaps you just need to revisit the giggle clinic I set up a couple of days ago. Click here for your injection.

Did you notice how they thanked Sarah Silverman in the credits? I wonder if they thanked her because she helped them at all, or if they thanked her simply for existing. I'm certainly going to thank Sarah Silverman for existing if I ever write a book or make a low budget indie movie.

Visit the official website for this series at
www.HauntedLesbianSorority.com
and beg these guys to make more episodes. Tell them they should invite me over to watch it being filmed:-)

Meanwhile, back at the farm...

"Hey what's up my name is Alexis and I'm from the lonely state of Wisconsin. It sucks here, but the gay community actually isn't that bad around the Milwaukee area. I'm looking for friends from all over to keep me sane in this place because frankly I'm ready to get the hell outta here. I have a girlfriend and she is my Carmen and I am her Shane...except I'm not a whore and won't leave her standing at the alter. I love being active but a movie night is always a good thing. Coffee is my crack and chocolate, my heroine. I'd do anything for anyone and sometimes it comes back to bite me in the ass, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I snowboard. End of story. It's my life and I'd die for it. So if anyone needs any lessons give me a holler. I talk more then most people should but I think that's a good thing because people refer to me for advice even though I am so young. So talk to me people, ask me anything and I will answer."

I Just Want Back In Your Bed

Lesbians unite! Um, so about a dozen of you guys sent me messages this morning telling me about the new Tegan and Sara video for "The Con." Here it is in case you haven't seen it yet. Or here it is if you're like most of us and you'll be watching it ALL DAMN DAY.

Seriously, who else but Tegan, Sara, and Kentucky Lightning can rock a mullet this well??

Vote For Pedro Arlan

I totally nominated my own blog for the Blogger's Choice Awards:-) If you have a moment, please vote for me. I have about 170 votes in the category for 'Best Blog Of All Time," and I need more than 205 to make it into the top 9 and be on the front page of the category. If i get more than 430, i can be at least #4...We can do this:-)

You have until October 19th (tomorrow night!) to vote, so please spread the word. Click below to vote!

Watch It Twice. That Helps.

I apologize if this is your first time on the site and this is the first post you're seeing:-) The only excuse I have is that its 1am and I'm watching "Golden Girls."

If you've been keeping up with my search for a wifey, I want to add something to it. If the following video makes you happy, and you fit the criteria I've previously set, we are most likely a good match:

No idea what's going on here, but it makes me smile. I can never get to sleep before 3am...I promise to try to stay away from youtube til the morning:-)

*The only unfortunate thing is that they mistook the "down the road" lyrics for "round the world." Colored a globe and everything. A for effort.

We're Not Gonna Get Them.

Back in June I told you guys about a movie those adorable T.A.T.U. angels and their spunky friend Mischa Barton were putting together. I now have in my hands...er...blog post...a "preview" of said movie.

My guess is that 99% of those of you who watch this will be like, "what?" and "who?" and "do what now?" Some of you might escalate that to a "what in the holy hell??"

But before you freak out, let me tell you why I'm gonna buy the dvd of this from a street vendor named "Bebo" out of the back of his Impala one day after it hits theaters go see this at the theater the first day it comes out:

A. At some point during what I'm going to assume will be 70 mins of film, Mischa Barton and the other chick are going to do it. If I can sit through "Wild Things 2 through 4" just for wet breasts shots and straight girls making out, I can sit through some snazzy music scenes with fire breathers for the same.

B. Mischa Barton's got nads. And I don't mean these kind. I mean, she's got moxy to make something that looks this bad and allegedly has a really weird premise and creepy dialogue.

C. Mischa's wearing a hair net. Well duh! Reason enough. This really should be A.

D. A little movie they call "Man in the Mirror: The Michael Jackson Story," which was an unauthorized bio that aired on VH1 in 2004. I like to call this movie, "heaven." You know why? Well first look at this picture from it: click. I tried to find vid of it, but *someone* has made it disappear off of the internet. That someone is probably either Michael himself, or Myspace's Tom. Or Oprah! She probably did it. Aaaaanywayz, the point is, that movie was by far the worst piece of shit I think I've ever witnessed on television. But because it was so terribly bad & wrong, it made me laugh and laugh for days. I will never be able to hear phrases like "Shut up, Tink!" without giggling wholeheartedly. The vision of their Elizabeth Taylor flopping down onto Mike's bed while wearing a track suit and diamonds will forever be burned into my memory. I want to relive a joy like that with this T.A.T.U. movie.

So I say, bring it ON!!!
