My gift to you...

Some of you already know the artist I'm going to share with the class today. But believe it or not, there are LOTS of people who don't! So sit back and prepare to have your lives slightly altered changed, FOREVER. :-)

Patty Griffin is my favorite songwriter. Introducing me to her music was one of the greatest things my friend Terra has ever done for me (and she's done some pretty incredibly things for me!) I finally got to see Patty in concert earlier this year, and it was the ONLY time I've ever cried during a show, no matter how moved I've been. It caught me completely by surprise. But her music really has helped me through some of the toughest times in my life so it makes sense that it had that great of an effect on me.

I don't want to depress you right out of the gate, but this is the only vid clip I could find where you can hear my favorite Patty song in its entirety. Believe it or not, this song was written years before Hurricane Katrina hit.

"Forgiveness"

(video by this youtube user)

Here's a live version of a song that has healed my soul a few times...

"Be Careful"

And one of the few official music videos she has:

"Rain"

If you liked these, other songs I recommend downloading are:

-"Top of the World" (has also been covered by the Dixie Chicks)
-"Useless Desires"
-"Long Ride Home"
-"Nobody's Cryin"
-"Let Him Fly" (has also been covered by Jessica Simpson)
-"Moses" (has also been covered by Terra Naomi)
-"Stolen Car"
-"Making Pies"
-"Not Alone"
-"When It Don't Come Easy"
-"Peter Pan"

Patty's official website is @ http://www.pattygriffin.com.
