Wanna go to a taping of Ellen with me?

hey guys...

sooo, i have 4 passes to see a filming of Ellen's talk show on Tuesday, November 13th...and i want to give away two of the spots to readers of my blog! :-)

if you live in or near los angeles, OR plan to be visiting here during that time, and you don't mind sitting next to *this* daily lesbian, send me a message at myspace.com/idgogayforangelina or interludemagazine@yahoo.com (one OR the other, pleasE) and let me know a bit about why you want to see the show. i'll let you know if you win the passes...

you might recall that i went to a taping a few weeks ago with my mom while she was visiting. she had a fantastic time and me, well...see for yourself:

these passes are completely free (dont ever let anyone sell you passes to Ellen's show!) and i received them by going through the show's website guidelines, being on a wait list for a few months. i have friends that would love to go im sure, but i think it would be cool to do it this way. plus, i'll let them all fight for that 4th pass;-) did someone say naked K-Y wrestle on my balcony?? yes, i think someone did.

Take a bite out of the audio taco!

you have to check out one of my favorite blogs right now. my friend Tina is SO passionate about music...and gives show and cd reviews on a regular basis. its frickin rad!

and riddle me this: she says she's "straight," right, but she adores Tegan & Sara, and ME. tegan and sara count as two gay points cause there are two of them, and i count as two points cause im SO frickin' gay. go look at her other musical taste and see if you can get her to change her mind about that pesky orientation;-)

if you like:

Tegan & Sara
Missy Higgins
PJ Harvey
Kate Nash
Metric
Aimee Mann
Bat For Lashes...........

...and learning about awesome new music, go take a bite out of Tina's...ahem....taco.

It' Gettin' Hot in Here...

This video by my old friend Jenny Owen Youngs was just released today:

(cover of "Hot In Herrrre")

If you think you recognize Jenny's voice, it may be because you caught her wicked song "Fuck Was I" on the premiere of Weeds LAST season. Or just cause you rock and already know the magical powers of Miss Youngs. Or cause you used to listen to the cover on my myspace profile.

If the music thing doesn't work out for her (it will.) she can always be a stand-up comedian. Catch her in the UK this Fall and a little birdy told me that more U.S. shows will be announced tomorrow on her myspace page.

Some nights are gayer than others...

I've lived in L.A. for about 2 and a half months now. As I mentioned in a post a few days ago, sometimes this city really gets to me.

But last night (at the Killola show) I had a great time cause it was chock full of some *real* folks. Like most nights in L.A., it was also chock full of some quite random (but awesome!) meetings. I somehow managed to meet the following people, all within a 4 hour period:

(In order of appearance)

David Moscow -
you know, the dude from "Newsies" and a bunch of other movies, including this one...

...before I introduced myself, I held him tight in my embrace. He smelled of peppermint and my childhood memories. You had me at "hello" David Moscow. You had me at "hello."

Joel Michaely -
The dude's been in like 20 films, but "But I'm a Cheerleader" is my favorite. He played Joel, the sensitive Jewish wanna-be-ex gay. Way to pimp those Killola cds my friend. :-)

Riki Lindhome -
She's just so good in everything she's in, from "Million Dollar Baby" to "Gilmore Girls" and everything in between. I'm really looking forward to seeing more!

Michelle Lombardo -
Super down to earth chick. She's on "Entourage" and in commercials, has been featured in Sports Illustrated and is doing films now...and she still keeps it *real* Don't ever let em change you, Michelle:-)

& Lisa Rieffel -
The lady of the night...lead singer for Killola and rock star goddess. So much energy on stage...crazy vocal skills...and a genuinely nice chick. Can't beat that with a stick. No seriously, I tried.

All three ladies can be seen in this clip from GIRLTRASH:

All the guys in the band who rock my world...Dan, Jonny, and Mike + the chick from Manchester who reads my blog (wicked!) and everyone else...it was good times. Love you like a 99 cents store;-) Maybe I'll stick around this crazy town for a little while after all...

danielle!

"There once was a time where the days just rolled by one after the other, when things felt "normal." Nothing horribly bad or good would happen, just the regular workings of a daily life. Until that one day, a day that I will remember for the rest of my life, when everything seemed to flip upside down, side ways, and even inside out..." -danielle

the rest of my friend Danielle's story is really amazing. she's a (HOT *ahem*) lesbian who, after a motorcycle accident 3 summers ago, almost died 3 times, lost a leg, and gained a new appreciation for life, all before she was 21:-) if you want to see more, go to her myspace page at www.myspace.com/dayni. (for privacy reasons, she only accepts friend requests from people she already knows. but i know she'd definitely love to get a message from you!)

in the meantime, here are some pics...since they are worth 1,000 words.

Danielle @ an olympic training center. cause you know, we all do that.

and this is that bitch snowboarding. i cant stand up on inline skates, so im more than envious. bitch. ;-)

yeah, i cant stand up straight on a skateboard either...

...so go ahead and show off for the camera danielle...you go right on ahead...

did i mention she's single, ladies?

you can meet danielle on her tour this summer! here's the info from the press release:

"Adaptive Action Sports (AAS, www.adacs.org), a non-profit dedicated to disabled action sports athletes, will be embarking on a skate tour this summer from the 14th of July to the 28th. At each tour stop the Adaptive Action Sport Skate Team or the Amped Riders will put on a demo for wounded soldiers or veterans (vets). This will be a theme for the whole tour. The tour will start in New York City and make its way to L.A. with 8 stops on the way. The purpose of such a tour is to create awareness among the injured vets and within the disabled community as a whole, that sports for disabled individuals, as a rehabilitative tool or for recreation, do not have to be limited to mainstream activities such as swimming, cycling, or running.

July 14th NYC- The tour will start at KCDC Skate Shop in Brooklyn. The Amped Riders (the “Amped Riders” are the team of athletes that represent Adaptive Action Sports) will demo on the shop ramp with several available pro skaters. An art show will grace the walls consisting of work including several Adaptive Artists. The Amped team will visit local V.A. hospitals to mentor and motivate injured vets.

July 15th P.A.-The Amped Riders Team will visit the first ever AAS skatepark being built in P.A. There a B-B-Q and press conference will be held to announce the park officially to the public. The Amped team will demo on the existing park. Veterans (vets) will be asked to attend. Transportation will be arranged to bring in vets from local hospitals.

July 16th-17th D.C.- The tours next stop will be Walter Read hospital in D.C. (Walter Reed Army Medical Center is the Army’s largest healthcare facility, and one of the largest in the Department of Defense. They have more than 600,000 visits a year to their main hospital and its satellite clinics; read more at www.wramc.amedd.army.mil/). After stopping at the hospital the Amped team will demo at the Arlington Virginia Skatepark. Transportation will be arranged for vets from Walter Read to attend the demo.

July 17th-18th Orlando Florida- The tour will fly to Orlando from D.C. or NYC to attend the second annual Extremity Games by College Park (the first disabled X-Games style event specifically for individuals with permanent physical disabilities; www.extremitygames.com). The day before the games begin the Amped riders will demo for local veterans on the E.X. Games facilities.

July 19th -21st Second Annual Extremity Games

July 22nd -Vans Warped Tour, Orlando- Adaptive Action Sports and the Amped Riders will operate a booth at the July 22nd stop of the Warped Tour in Orlando. The Amped Riders will demo on a mini ramp at the event and AAS will man an informative booth to raise awareness about disabilities in action sports.

July 23rd-24th San Francisco- The Team will travel between the 23rd and 24th of July to San Francisco to team up with Zac Smiths’ Collective Sound (The Collective Sound is a California based music camp; The goal of The Collective Sound is to present youth with an authentic musical experience in performance, recording, and touring through the vehicle of rock, electronic and popular music; read more at www.csuchico.edu/mus/ethos/). A select group of the camps bands, an art show and demos by the Amped Skate Team will fill the lineup for a festival style fundraiser for Adaptive Action Sports that will be called the “Youth Movement Co-Op.” The camps bands will open for headliners in each city. The event will be held at outdoor venues and include educational booths and product giveaways.

July 26th- San Diego - “Youth Movement Co-Op”- Here vets from camp Pendleton will be encouraged to attend the event. Transportation will be provided.

July 27th- Los Angeles- Final stop of tour “Youth Movement Co-Op”- The final date of the tour will be held at The Lab, www.thelab.com, in Costa Mesa Ca."

a new show i helped create!

im soooo happy to be able to announce a new project ive been working on! you might have seen/heard me talking about my good friend terra naomi. she's a singer/songwriter in los angeles. this summer, she put a few vids of her singing in her living room online and youtube.com featured her on their front page TWICE because they love her music so much. since then, she's received thousands and thousands of fan emails, been on CNBC, been to england and back and has received some awesome feedback from around the world. its been crazy.

i was fortunate enough to be able to help create the newest addition to her online video promotions/sharing world: a new reality show exclusive to youtube called "Terra Naomi: Virtuality"! this is the first episode and a new episode will appear on youtube EACH saturday!

if you dont already love terra, you will after you see this! and check out the credits at the end. see if you recognize a name;-)
UPDATE!! the video was added as a featured vid on the front page of youtube today! :-)

and this is the companion video to this week's episode...its probably my favorite terra song, "Beauty Fades".

A voice, a guitar, & a pregnant bicurious chick

I'd like to introduce you to my friend Terra Naomi.

Terra was recently featured on the front page of youtube TWICE (!!). She's the most subscribed musician on youtube and her vids have been seen more than 2 million times on the site in the past few weeks.

She has a show tonight in L.A. (glendale) at Tangier Lounge which is an 18+ show...and then one on Friday night in Santa Ana at the Gypsy Den that is FREE & all-ages. if youre near one of those places, you should DEFINITELY check her out. and if you do, introduce yourself to her and tell her Arlan sent you:-)

also, she has a new cd with both of these songs on it that you can order by clicking HERE.

oh! and she just announced that she's on the soundtrack for Maggie Gyllenhaal's new movie "Sherrybaby"! so definitely check that out too.

here's the song that was featured on youtube first...

"Say It's Possible"

i think this next song "Up Here" should replace the weirdness that is the L Word opening themesong. dont you?

"Kissing Jessica Stein" has some of the best writing in a movie, ever. period.

if you've seen it before, you'll like this clip. its an extended version of a cool/funny scene. very interesting how the editor of a movie is really the most talented person involved. dont you think?

if youve never seen this movie, this is what i want you to do: stand up. go to Blockbuster. rent this movie. go to the grocery store and get a bottle of wine. come back home. watch the movie while drinking the wine. hopefully chase all of that with some making out. rinse and repeat.

if you dont wanna drive to Blockbuster, get the movie at Netflix.com

salute to school girl uniforms

this is the long trailer for a new movie called "Loving Annabelle". i saw this at Outfest in L.A. a couple of months ago and it was really good. i sat next to the older dude in one of the scenes in this clip.

i especially liked Gustine Fudickar's outcast/sidekick role. she did a great job.

the song used during the second half of this clip is "My Skin" by Natalie Merchant.

_________________________

Jenny Owen Youngs is a buddy of mine in New Jersey who likes the simple things in life; like wearing school girl uniforms on stage, covering Britney Spears & Kelly Clarkson, and writing & performing some of the most emotional and heartbreaking songs i know of.

im offering you these two short clips of a cover you might recognize, but i invite you to go to her myspace page and listen to her original work. it's stunning. she opened for Regina Spektor on a few dates earlier this year and you might have heard her song "fuck was i" when it was briefly featured in the first episode of "Weeds" this season. ladies seem to love cool Jenny.

whether or not you agree with the t.a.t.u. gimmick, you gotta admit this was a pretty cool performance. it was MTV's Movie Awards 2003, and two girls had a dream. a dream to dance around half naked, and bring 100 or so of their hot friends to do the same. a dream to not sing one note in tune...but for you not to care cause there were about 100 half-naked girls running around kissing in unison.

you have no idea how sorry i am about the quality of this clip. especially when it gets to the part when the girls get more than half naked. *shakes fists at the youtube gods*

my personal take on the whole tatu thing is, yes theyre acting or whatEVER. but not every woman on the L Word is really a lesbian. and do we get mad at them for playing a part? i think its cool that lesbianism had a role on MTV for a few months and had nothing to do with a rapper or an overaged rocker tossing champagne on their naked bodies at a skating rink.
