(CNN) -- Two months before dying, a Virginia woman confessed to killing two women nearly 42 years ago, authorities said Friday, telling police she shot the women because they had taunted her for being a lesbian.
Sharron Diane Crawford Smith, 60, confessed in a November 28 interview to shooting the women at a Staunton ice cream store in 1967, authorities said.
"I was just pushed so far," Smith said, according to a transcript of a police interview.
Smith was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Constance Smootz Hevener, 19, and Hevener's 20-year-old sister-in-law, Carolyn Hevener Perry, according to CNN affiliate WVIR.
But health problems forced a postponement of a December court date, WVIR said, and Smith, who had heart and kidney problems, died January 19.
Authorities on Friday said they consider Smith the guilty party and are working toward closing the case.

those bitches deserved it, dont make fun of people for things they cant conrol, im sure there was a better way to solve the issue rather then murdering, however idk if i could just "let it go" either.
im very glad that she didnt kill herself, for being ashamed or tired of the ridicule, she went to the problem and got rid of it =)
Wow Leah, I respect your opinion but I have to say that I do NOT agree with you. I think its a tragedy that this happened. Maybe there could have been a way for those two women to learn from this chick and spend the rest of their lives spreading positivity. Instead, their lives were taken at 20 years old...and we'll never know. I don't think they deserved to be killed. There are few people I think are though...so yeah... just wanted to publicly state that I do NOT think this woman who shot these two women is a hero or anything... I just thought the story was interesting and shows a side of a common story that we rarely see.
And who knows, maybe one or both of these girls was gay themselves, and thats why they they taunted her...it happens all the time. We'll never know.

I don't think those women deserved to die, and I'm sure Sharron regretted doing this everyday of her life! Otherwise she would have never said a word. I think she confessed because she knew she was going to die, and didn't want their families to never have closure. It's a very sad story. For them all. I hope someday our world can be more open-minded. I'm glad my mom taught me to love everyone. In my lifetime I have learned not to label yourself or anyone else. Yes I am married to a man, and I have a daughter. I love them both unconditionally, but I've been in love with a woman as well. What does that tell you?

What I am confused about, because it doesn't say in the article...but was the woman really a lesbian? Or did she kill them for teasing her. I guess it really doesn't matter either way, just a curious thing that the article didn't mention her actual sexual identity over her perceived one.
Sandra, what I got from this part of the article:
" She acknowledged that teasing "about my lifestyle" had gone on for a while.
Asked how the victims knew about it, she said, "How do kids find out about anything? I mean, it was really unusual back then.""
...is that she was acknowledging that they were correct about her orientation.
